Did you know that Arizona:

  • Ranks 45th out of 50 states in general child well being?
  • Has the highest school dropout rate in the country?
  • Ranks 48th in births to girls 15 to 17 years of age?

Since 1990, Pima YOUTH Partnership has endeavored to keep youth in school, reduce pregnancies, STDs and births to teens, and create healthy and safe environments for children, youth, and families in rural communities and Native American Reservations in southwestern Arizona.

We are particularly proud that we bring scientifically proven successful programs designed to reduce alcohol, drug, tobacco, and early sexual activity to school aged youth and their families, and, we get the same kinds of positive results. Our programs have won national awards. Recently, we were selected by the Governor's Office and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration as one of two sites in southern Arizona to participate in the National Reach Out Now to 5th Graders Substance Abuse Prevention Week.

Also, we work with community coalitions and youth advisory councils in Ajo, Catalina, Marana, New Pascua Yaqui Reservation, and the Tohono O'odham Nation to reduce laws, norms, and policies favorable to substance use.

Current sites include Ajo, Catalina, Flowing Wells, rural Marana, Old Pascua Pueblo, New Pascua Yaqui Reservation, and five districts of the Tohono O'odham Nation (Pisinemo, Gu Vo, Gu Achi, Shuk Toak, and Sells). Working with youth and adults in these communities helps us reach our mission.

In partnership with communities,

develop resources to promote
the positive growth of their children.

Pima YOUTH Partnership (PYP) was incorporated in 1990 by a group of concerned citizens that wanted to connect rural communities with the same programs, services, and activities available to youth and families living in the metropolitan Tucson area.

As a prevention agency, PYP works with youth and families in rural and Native American communities to reach its mission, "In partnership with communities, develop resources to promote the positive growth of their children." Since 1990, PYP has grown from its original three (3) communities of Ajo, rural Marana, and Sahuarita, to include Catalina, Flowing Wells, New Pascua Yaqui Reservation, and the three (3) western districts of the Tohono O'odham Nation.
